Alicia Keys is opening up in her new memoir, “More Myself.” The 39-year-old GRAMMY winner said when she found out she was pregnant with her second child with husband Swizz Beatz, she told her doctor she “wasn’t ready for this” as she though about terminating the pregnancy.
“This is the worst time ever,” she recalled telling the health care professional. At the time Keys was working on her sixth album while her husband was attending Harvard Business school. She also admitted to drinking a lot during those days.
“The music I was creating felt more important and urgent than just about everything,” she recalled thinking. But it was the music itself that helped ease her fears. She says she played back her song “More Than We Know” and realized it had “a powerful message that I should go on with the pregnancy.”
The singer and husband Swizz Beatz share two sons, Egypt Daoud, nine, and Genesis Ali, now five.
